GOLDEN TEMPLE OF NAMDROLING MONASTERY
The Golden Temple of Namdroling Monastery is one of the most popular tourist spots in Kodagu. This monastery is located approximately 18 kilometres from The Birchwood Retreat and can be covered in a 31-minute drive. This monastery is the largest learning centre that teaches the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. His Holiness Peno Rinpoche was responsible for the construction of this marvellous structure. It took 4 years for the construction of The Golden Temple to be completed and it opened its doors way back in 1999. The incredible landscape surrounding this monastery was not only a humble offering to the Three Jewels but also an attempt to bring peace and calm to the minds of the visitors.

If you’re someone that enjoys the enchanting views from a hilltop, then Mandalpatti is the place for you. Located approximately 32 kilometres from The Birchwood Retreat, Mandalpatti is well-known among nature lovers who enjoy a challenging trek. There are provisions for people to enjoy a drive to various vantage points of Coorg. Watching sunsets from the watchtower built by the Forest Department is certainly breathtaking.

Situated on the banks of the Kaveri river, the Dubare Elephant Camp is located approximately 20 kilometres from The Birchwood Retreat. This is the perfect place for those that love elephants, as there is an array of activities involving these lovely animals. Visitors can take part in rides, interact with elephants and even give these gentle giants a bath. It is noteworthy to mention that the Dubare Elephant Camp attracts a ton of visitors and it is advisable to reach this place as early as possible.

Located approximately 21 km from The Birchwood Retreat, Abbey Falls is one of the most popular tourist hotspots in Coorg. The sight of water falling from a height of 70 feet, surrounded by lush greenery is breathtaking. The presence of a hanging bridge opposite the waterfall makes for a great vantage point. Tourists often traverse the hanging bridge to view the Abbey Waterfall. This area also has great trails for those that enjoy a scenic trek. There’s a wide range of trails which means it caters to both casual wayfarers and trekking enthusiasts.

Talakaveri is one of the most popular tourist spots in Coorg. Located approximately 59 km away from our property, this is an important place for Hindu pilgrims and thousands flock to the temple situated in Talakaveri. The sanctum sanctorum of the temple contains a Shiva Linga, which marks the origin of this river. Tula Sankramana is an important festival for the people of Coorg, as they believe that Goddess Kaveri emerges before her devotees on this day.
